October Polka Dots

As I sat down to draw yesterday, I found that the ideas simply didn’t flow. I got part way through a Cthulhu sketch, a felt-tip marker cat in a witch’s hat, and a Viking longboat, before I laid down the pen and wanted to give up. The enticing smoothness of the fresh paper and the flow of ink from my pens just didn’t translate into inspiration. However, I committed myself to get as much drawing done as possible in the pre-NaNoWriMo weeks, knowing that once NaNo starts, and the end of school year commitments for my kids, and the horrifying stress peace and joy of Christmas, and the social intensity of New Year’s – well, based on past experience, it’s usually February by the time I can recover enough to think about drawing again.

October Digital Art: Blue Horse 01

It’s a beautifully sunny spring day in Melbourne, Australia today. I am looking forward to November and starting my fourth NaNoWriMo, but in the meantime I am trying to stock up my RedBubble store!

After several false starts this morning, I managed to draw a blue horse using Medi Bang Paint and my Wacom Intuos tablet.

At the time of publishing this post, I have made this image available for sale on a variety of RedBubble products including clothing, phone and laptop covers, pencil cases, notebooks, bed linen and art prints. See flokot.redbubble.com for more details.

Digital Drawings October 2016: Smily Blue Cat Face

I’m binge-drawing before NaNoWriMo begins. I drew this cat in MediBang Paint Pro, using a Wacom Intuos. I still feel like a complete beginner in digital drawing. I like how clean it is, though, in the sense that when I upload files there are no mysterious bits of pixelated fluff, as there often is when I scan my hand drawn art!

At the time of publishing this blog post, this drawing is currently available for purchase on stickers, art prints, and a variety of other products. For more information see my RedBubble portfolio at flokot.redbubble.com.

I’ve been plugging away (slowly) at trying to get the hang of digital art. At this stage I am using MediBang Paint Pro – if I continue to progress I plan to upgrade to one of the more professional art programmes, but that said MediBang Paint is proving to be a wonderful learning tool. I have a Wacom Intuos tablet that is absolutely fantastic.

June – July 2016: Scenes from my sketchbook

Scan10001-4-2.jpg

The Husband has been reading a lot of Slavic mythology lately (he has Ukrainian ancestry but a lot of the family history was lost after his grandfather was released from a prisoner of war camp after World War II and migrated to Australia, and so The Husband’s been tapping into his cultural heritage through studying traditional mythology, which I think is super awesome), and noticed a lot of mermaid themes. He asked if I could draw a mermaid riding a seahorse, and this is what I came up with. It was just a quick sketch but I was really happy with how it turned out. To clarify, though, this mermaid is not one that I have drawn based on Slavic myth!

I’ve got some products featuring this drawing over at my RedBubble store.
